This exciting new publication presents twelve of Antonio Vivaldi’s concertos, in solo keyboard versions preserved in ‘Anne Dawson’s Book’, an early eighteenth-century manuscript now in the Henry Watson Music Library, Manchester (GB-Mp BRm710.5Cr71). It is exceptional amongst such ‘keyboard books’ not only for the quality of the music it contains, but also for the high standard of the transcriptions themselves, which are both idiomatic and sophisticated.

The twelve concertos are taken from L’estro armonico, op. 3 (1712), and La stravaganza, op. 4 (1715), and are presented here newly transcribed and edited with a full commentary. Aside from the sonata for harpsichord and strings, RV 781a (itself a version of RV 546), Vivaldi is not believed to have composed any original music for solo keyboard, making the arrangements in Anne Dawson’s Book all the more valuable, worthy companions to the versions made by J. S. Bach.

This elegant volume comes cloth-bound, with a dustcover and page-marker.
