Georg Philipp Telemann, a contemporary of J. S. Bach, served for much of his career as director of music for the five main churches in Hamburg. Of his hugely prolific output, his relatively small number of keyboard works comprise 36 fantasias, organised in three ‘dozens’, twelve ouvertures, and a number of small works, probably written for educational purposes. Although his music fell into neglect during the nineteenth century, today it is recognised for bridging the gap between the Baroque and Classical styles, its melodic invention and rhythmic vitality. Accessible for beginner and intermediate pianists, this series of publications presents this engaging music in new Urtext editions.
